The Fox and the Stork

A fox invited a stork to dinner. He prepared a soup and server it in a large flat dish.

"Let us begin," said the fox and began lapping. "It is really nice, isn't it?"

The stork enjoyed its nice smell. It made his mouth water. But he could not sip even a drop of the soup. His beak was long while the dish was shallow. He knew that the cunning fox had played a trick on him. He just looked on helplessly while the fox was finishing the soup.

A few days later, the stork invited the fox to dinner. He prepared a delicious soup with great care. He served the soup in a jug with a narrow mouth.

"Let us begin," said the stork and put his long beak into the jug. He sipped the soup comfortably. He said to his guest, "I have never tasted such a delicious soup. I have prepared it specially for you. Please don't feel shy. Have as much of it as you like."

But the fox could not drink the soup at all. The mouth of the jug was too narrow for him. He felt sorry for himself. He realised that he was paying the price for his own mischief.

TIT FOR TAT
